Breman Jewish Heritage and Holocaust Museum
Georgia
The Breman Museum on Spring Street in Midtown Atlanta is a leading Jewish heritage museum in the Southeast. Its archival collections began with a seed gift in nineteen eighty-five. The museum is named for Atlanta businessman and philanthropist William Breman.
Its permanent exhibitions include History with Chutzpah, which tells the stories of Jews in Georgia and Alabama, and a permanent exhibition dedicated to the Holocaust. It also houses extensive archives of Southern Jewish history. Georgia has one of the oldest Jewish communities in North America, dating to the colony's founding year of seventeen thirty-three, when a ship carrying Sephardic Jewish refugees arrived in Savannah just months after the colony itself.
