Bevington, Iowa
Iowa
Bevington is a Madison County community with an origin story rooted in Gold Rush ambition. C. D.
Bevington first passed through this part of Iowa in eighteen forty-nine on his way to California, then returned and settled in Winterset in eighteen fifty-three after making his fortune. He became a pharmacist, real estate agent, farmer, livestock dealer, and banker, one of those versatile frontier businessmen who ended up touching every corner of local commerce. When the town was laid out in eighteen seventy-two, it was named for him.
Bevington has stayed small, a dot on the Madison County map near the Warren County line, now just a short drive south of the Des Moines metro.
