Jasper County Courthouse

Iowa

Standing in the center of Newton, the Jasper County Courthouse is one of Iowa's finest Beaux-Arts public buildings. Designed by the Des Moines firm of Proudfoot and Bird and built between nineteen oh nine and nineteen eleven, it is crowned by a drum and dome rising from the center. Inside, freestanding column screens separate the hallways from a central rotunda. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in nineteen eighty-one and remains Jasper County's working seat of government today.
