Jeffersontown, Kentucky
Near Louisville, Kentucky
When Abraham Bruner bought a hundred and twenty-two acres near Chenoweth Run Creek in seventeen ninety-four, he noticed travelers already stopping at the crossroads to repair wagons before pressing on to Louisville. He platted a town, and the community officially incorporated on May third, seventeen ninety-seven. The name honors either Jefferson County or Thomas Jefferson, who was vice president at the time, and sources differ.
Many called it Brunerstown, honoring their founder, well into the eighteen hundreds. Today Jeffersontown is a Louisville suburb of roughly thirty thousand, though the exact origin of its name is still debated.
