Middletown, Kentucky
Near Louisville, Kentucky
Middletown was chartered in seventeen ninety-seven, its name reflecting the obvious: it sat squarely between Louisville to the west and Shelbyville to the east, a handy midpoint on the toll road connecting the two. The original charter covered five hundred acres along a branch of Beargrass Creek, land held by Jacob Meyers and Culberth Harrison. Today it is a quiet Louisville suburb, but it began as one of Jefferson County's early trading crossroads.
