Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame

Montana

Wolf Point on the Fort Peck Reservation was designated in two thousand three by the Montana legislature as the site of the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Center. Montana legislators passed a bill naming Wolf Point as the site specifically to honor the working ranching and cowboy traditions of the northern high plains, a region where cattle drives, homesteaders, and tribal ranching cultures have overlapped for a century and a half.

The first class of inductees was announced in two thousand eight, drawn from twelve geographic districts across the state. The hall honors ranchers, rodeo champions, stock growers, and others who shaped Montana's western heritage from eighteen sixty onward. Annual induction ceremonies have been held each year since, rotating through Montana communities. The Hall is now colocated with the Charles M. Russell Museum in Great Falls, while Wolf Point remains out where the Missouri River bends east and the plains seem to stretch without end.
