Maywood: Frontier County Crossroads

Maywood is a small village in Frontier County, Nebraska, a county whose name says something about what this land was not so long ago. Settlers began arriving in the eighteen eighties, drawn west by the Homestead Act. Maywood was founded in that same decade.

For much of its life the town served the surrounding wheat and cattle operations as a local trade center. Frontier County remains one of Nebraska's quieter corners today, but Maywood hangs on as a crossroads village in rolling country of southwestern Nebraska.
