Van Wyck Homestead

New York

The Van Wyck Homestead in Fishkill, New York, built around seventeen thirty, served as the headquarters of the Continental Army's Hudson Highlands Department during the Revolutionary War and held the supply depot that kept Washington's army fed and armed during the critical campaigns of seventeen seventy-seven through seventeen eighty-three. Thousands of soldiers passed through the Fishkill Supply Depot, which operated here and on the surrounding land. The house was also the site of military courts-martial and intelligence operations.

After the war it returned to family use and remained in private hands for generations. It is now a museum operated by the Fishkill Historical Society and is one of the few surviving Revolutionary War headquarters in the Hudson Valley that has not been dramatically altered. Archaeological work on the grounds has uncovered evidence of the Continental encampment.
