Harrison, Ohio
Ohio
Harrison sits on the Indiana border in Hamilton County, Ohio, and was laid out in eighteen ten and named for William Henry Harrison, a future president. The town sits near the Whitewater River and grew as a staging point for westward migration and river commerce. Its most durable industry turned out to be clay: the surrounding hills proved rich in fire clay and shale, supporting brick and pottery works that supplied building materials to Cincinnati's booming nineteenth century. Today Harrison is a quiet suburb of about thirteen thousand residents, its presidential namesake still remembered on a historical marker near the town center.
