Lebanon, Ohio

Ohio

Lebanon is the county seat of Warren County and one of the better-preserved small-city downtowns in southwestern Ohio. The town was laid out in September of eighteen oh two by a group of settlers including Silas Hurin and Ichabod Corwin on land along Turtle Creek, and Warren County itself was established the following year, named for Dr. Joseph Warren, the Revolutionary War officer who sent Paul Revere on his famous ride and died at the Battle of Bunker Hill.

The Golden Lamb Inn opened in eighteen oh three as a stagecoach stop and has operated continuously ever since, making it Ohio's oldest inn. Twelve United States presidents have reportedly passed through its doors, from John Quincy Adams to Ronald Reagan. The Western Star, long Ohio's oldest weekly newspaper, was printed here from eighteen oh seven until it closed in twenty thirteen.

Lebanon sits at the center of Warren County's strong Shaker heritage, with the Union Village Shaker community having been established nearby in eighteen oh five.
