Devon Horse Show
Pennsylvania
Every spring for more than a century, the grounds along Lancaster Avenue in Devon have hosted the oldest and largest outdoor multi-breed horse show in the United States. The Devon Horse Show first ran in eighteen ninety-six as a one-day event intended to bring superior carriage horses to the Main Line. It grew steadily into an international competition lasting more than a week, drawing competitors from across the country and abroad.
In nineteen nineteen a Country Fair was added alongside the show to benefit Bryn Mawr Hospital, and the two events have run together ever since. The United States Equestrian Federation has recognized Devon as a Heritage Competition. What began as a local gentlemen's diversion became a showcase of horsemanship that defines the character of the Pennsylvania Main Line every late May.
