Manns Choice, Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania
Manns Choice in Bedford County has one of the more entertaining origin stories in Pennsylvania. In eighteen forty-eight, Congressman Job Mann was pushing for a post office to be established at a small unnamed village in Harrison Township. The Post Office Department approved the new office but needed a name for the maps.
While Mann was busy deciding, cartographers wrote a placeholder on the paperwork: Mann's Choice. The name was never replaced. It became official, the apostrophe was later dropped, and the borough has been Manns Choice ever since.
Today it is a small rural community of a few hundred residents, best known for its peculiar postal accident of a name.
