Marysville: The Susquehanna's Quiet West Bank

Near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Marysville is a small Perry County borough tucked between the Susquehanna River to the east and the mountains to the north and west , a geography that kept it contained and defined its character for generations. The area was settled in seventeen fifty-five and passed through several families. The borough was incorporated in eighteen sixty-six as Haley, then renamed Marysville in eighteen sixty-seven by a legislative act.

It sits on the Susquehanna upriver from Harrisburg and has long served as a quiet residential counterpart to the capital's bustle. The borough is part of the Harrisburg-Carlisle metropolitan area and maintains the unhurried feel of a place that the twentieth century mostly passed by.
