The Access Road, Wobbly Barn, and Pickle Barrel

Near Killington, Vermont

This winding strip of pavement is the Killington Access Road, and it is the beating social heart of the Beast. Several miles long, it climbs from the highway toward the slopes past a dense run of lodges, restaurants, and bars, and for generations it has given Killington some of the most famous nightlife in American skiing. Two names tower over the rest, and both were born in the same era the resort itself came of age.

The Wobbly Barn opened its doors in the resort's early days, a steakhouse and music hall that has anchored the after ski scene ever since, its stage rattling with live bands while snow melts off boots by the door. Nearby stands the Pickle Barrel, a party landmark for decades, sprawling across multiple levels of dance floors and stages that have hosted major touring acts. The club has long billed itself as the house that rocks Killington, and it is celebrated as a legend of North American ski nightlife.

Together they define a ritual as old as the resort. You ski the Beast all day, then you come down the Access Road and celebrate surviving it.
