North Bend, Washington
Washington
North Bend sits at the foot of the Cascade Mountains in King County, Washington, about thirty miles east of Seattle in the Snoqualmie River Valley. The town grew up in the eighteen eighties around the logging industry, positioned where the valley narrows before the mountains begin, at the foot of the pass that the Milwaukee Road railroad and later Interstate Ninety would cross. For decades it was a timber and railroad town.
Today North Bend is better known for two things. First, as the gateway to Snoqualmie Pass, the mountain crossing that connects Seattle to eastern Washington and is a major route for freight crossing the Cascades. Second, as the filming location for Twin Peaks, the David Lynch television series that used the town's classic Pacific Northwest Main Street and the surrounding Cascade landscape to build one of the most distinctive fictional American small towns in television history.
The Double R Diner, where Agent Dale Cooper drank his coffee, is Twede's Cafe, originally the Mar T Cafe, still operating on North Bend Way.
