Trinity Episcopal Church
Alabama
Episcopalians have worshipped in Florence since eighteen twenty-four, and Trinity Episcopal Church was organized here in eighteen thirty-six by the Reverend Thomas Armstrong Cook. Their first church, over on College and Cedar Streets, was consecrated in eighteen forty-five by Bishop Nicholas Hamner Cobbs. That original building burned in eighteen ninety-three.
The congregation rebuilt the very next year, in eighteen ninety-four, on the corner of Pine and Tuscaloosa Streets, where the church still stands today. They carried the tower bell from the old burned church over to the new one, so a piece of the first Trinity still rings here. Services have been held in this building since Easter Day of eighteen ninety-five, and the bishop formally consecrated it in eighteen ninety-eight.
A parish hall and education buildings were added across the twentieth century.
