Coast Guard Helicopter Six Zero One Seven
Alaska
This memorial at Sitka honors the crew of Coast Guard helicopter six zero one seven, based here at Air Station Sitka. In July of two thousand ten, aircrew flew south to bring home a Jayhawk helicopter. On the return trip, the helicopter went down off the Washington coast near La Push, and members of the crew were lost.
Air Station Sitka has long stood guard over some of the most dangerous waters on the planet, launching into storms to pull fishermen and mariners from the cold North Pacific. This marker remembers the cost of that work.
