The Idaho Falls L D S Hospital and Nursing School
Idaho
This marker honors the first major hospital in Idaho Falls and the nursing school that grew alongside it.
The idea came from local Church members, and construction began in nineteen nineteen, though a struggling economy delayed the work. In October of nineteen twenty three the Latter Day Saints Hospital was finally dedicated by the Church president.
A school of nursing was vital to running the place. Student nurses at first lived right on the third floor of the hospital, until a separate nurses' home became necessary and was built in the early nineteen forties. The Church later divested ownership, and under later names the hospital served the community until December of nineteen eighty six, leaving generations of trained nurses as its legacy.
