Claycomo, Missouri

Near Kansas City, Missouri

Claycomo is a small Clay County village just north of Kansas City whose name is a blend of its county and state: Clay plus Missouri equals Claycomo. The community began on a four-hundred-twelve-acre farm owned by the Barnes family, which the Munger Investment Company purchased, graded into streets, and subdivided into lots. Roads were named after poets.

The village incorporated on November twenty-first, nineteen forty-six. Just a few years later, in nineteen forty-nine, the Wabash Railroad purchased over a thousand adjacent acres to develop an industrial park. Ford Motor Company arrived on April twenty-fourth, nineteen fifty-one, and the Kansas City Assembly Plant eventually opened for full automobile production in nineteen fifty-six.

A County Squire station wagon was the first vehicle off the new line in January of nineteen fifty-seven.
