North Hampton, New Hampshire

New Hampshire

North Hampton was set off from Hampton in seventeen forty-two, becoming one of New Hampshire's smaller coastal towns with a population that still hovers around four thousand. Its most striking feature is the stretch of Route One-A that traces the rocky shoreline, where glacially deposited granite meets the Atlantic surf. The area's oldest history runs deeper than the English settlement: the Winnacunnet people of the Pennacook confederacy lived along this coast for thousands of years before European contact. The Little Boar's Head neighborhood here was a fashionable Victorian summer retreat, drawing Boston families to its sea-breezes in the era before air conditioning made inland summers bearable.
