Senior Chief Daniel Healy, Navy SEAL

New Hampshire

This marker honors Senior Chief Daniel Healy, a Navy SEAL from Exeter, New Hampshire. Born here, he graduated from Exeter High School, joined the Navy, and earned his trident after the punishing course every SEAL knows simply as buds.

In the summer of two thousand five, in the mountains of Kunar Province, Afghanistan, a four man reconnaissance team was pinned down by a much larger Taliban force in the fight that became known as Operation Red Wings. Healy was aboard a helicopter racing to their rescue when it was shot down. He and everyone with him were killed.

It remains one of the worst single day losses in Navy SEAL history. In his hometown, his memory is honored locally.
