Jeffersonville, Ohio
Ohio
Jefferson Township in Fayette County was established in the early eighteen hundreds, named in honor of President Thomas Jefferson. Early settlers were drawn by the fertile black soil between Rattlesnake and Sugar Creeks, and pioneer families cleared dense hardwood forests to build farms and a close-knit rural community.
In eighteen thirty-one, the village of Jeffersonville was laid out as a trading post for the farming community spreading across the surrounding township. It grew into a small market town of about twelve hundred people.
