Gold Hill: Pocket Mine on the Rogue

Oregon

Gold Hill got its start when gold was found on Big Bar on the Rogue River in the early eighteen fifties, and the area became known for pocket gold. The railroad came through in the eighteen eighties and the town was platted soon after. Gold Hill incorporated in eighteen ninety-five. Over time the mines faded, and the town pivoted to fruit orchards and agriculture, the same economy that sustains the Rogue Valley today.
