Beirdneau Peak Above Logan Canyon

Utah

High in the Bear River Range, nearly nine thousand feet up, stands Beirdneau Peak, forming the rugged walls of both Logan Canyon and Green Canyon. The mountain carries the name of Nehemiah Wood Beirdneau, born in eighteen twenty four, one of the early founders of Logan City. Before he ever reached Utah, Beirdneau is said to have served as a personal bodyguard to Joseph Smith, the founder of the Latter day Saint movement.

He came west with the Mormon migration and eventually helping settle the Cache Valley to the north. A small plaque at the summit tells hikers who he was and why his name crowns this peak. He lived until nineteen oh one.
