Historic Fallsington: William Penn's Meeting Place

Near Trenton, Pennsylvania

Fallsington is one of the oldest continuously inhabited villages in Pennsylvania. Quakers settled here among the first wave of arrivals in William Penn's colony, organizing a Friends Meeting in sixteen eighty-three. Penn himself is said to have attended worship at this meeting in seventeen oh one, one of his last visits to Pennsylvania before returning to England.

The original meetinghouse of about sixteen ninety stood near the site of the building you can still see today. What makes Fallsington unusual is how much of it survived. Many of its eighteenth-century houses remain standing, giving the village a rare integrity as a colonial-era townscape.

Walking through it is less like visiting a museum and more like stepping into a neighborhood that simply never got rebuilt.
